Fun summer holiday activity for High School students Years 11-13!

Are you creative? Join us for our Career Discovery programme in January 2021!

You will get to try out what it is like to study at university, develop your professional skills, and explore your future as a creative practitioner. You can take part in Architecture, Virtual Reality (VR), and Fashion Design workshops. 

The Wellington Faculty of Architecture and Design Innovation is offering an intensive and immersive summer programme. Each workshop lasts 5 days and includes:

  • hands-on creative making and designing
  • interactive demos
  • training with cutting-edge technology
  • studio experience
  • a field trip
  • guest lectures by industry professionals

By participating in the programme you get the chance to use great facilities, cutting-edge technology, and modern studios with the help of friendly university lecturers. The workshops are held at the Te Aro campus in the heart of Wellington, the vibrant arts capital.

These fun courses will give you an insight into the university experience. Selected work will be exhibited on the Future Designers website. Complete all three workshops or sign up for just one!

Career Discovery: Architecture

Explore the design of Architecture, creating your own architectural experience. In this discovery course, you will learn one of the key skills of being an Architect: the design process. You will create an inspirational architectural experience that will change how you see the world you live in, using the latest technology to turn your ideas into inhabitable spaces. With planned site visits to architecture practices, you will gain an insight into what is involved in studying to become an Architect. By the end of the course, you will have designed your own architectural experience to take home.  

Date & time: 9 am to 5 pm daily. The workshop lasts 5 days.

Career Discovery: Fashion Design CANCELED

Explore the practices, skills, and materials associated with Fashion Design in the Career Discovery programme. The 5 day workshop incorporates studio sessions and tutorials around the development of products, systems, and strategies in the world of fashion, costume, and textiles. The studio sessions sample a range of exercises, demonstrations, and lectures from established industry professionals. Develop your own project under the skilled tutelage of fashion designers. Create your own design to take home!

Career Discovery: Virtual Reality (VR) CANCELED

Explore the cutting edge field of Virtual Reality and design your own interactive VR experience. This programme incorporates studio sessions and workshops that will guide you through the process of creating an interactive VR world. You will have your own VR headset and individual workspace and will be guided through the steps for creating innovative VR content. Guest lectures from industry professionals will demonstrate the various applications of VR technology, ranging from film to game design. You will experiment with the tools and technology available in this exciting new field and take away your own unique VR creation
