About Future Designers

 

Future Designers is a community of up and coming designers at high schools throughout New Zealand.

From June 2020, the School of Design Innovation at Victoria University of Wellington is releasing a monthly design challenge to put your design skills to the test. Our panel of esteemed judges are are cheering you on, and awarding prizes for the best submissions.

Helen Andreae

Helen Andreae’s designs aim to change people’s internal states through physical experiences. Helen uses psychology research to understand design challenges and bases her designs on these detailed psychology insights. Besides having entrepreneurial experience, Helen has worked with design at Victoria University of Wellington for more than 9 years.

Prof Douglas Easterly

Douglas Easterly’s award-winning artwork has been included in books published by Phaidon, Gestalten and MIT Press and is also included in the Museum of Modern Art permanent collection. Doug has taught art and design for over 20 years and he has also been active in developing courses and programmes spanning animation, gaming, creative coding, fashion, communication design and fine art.

Tuakana Metuarau

Tuakana Metuarau is a filmmaker, animator and game developer. He graduated from the School of Design Innovation in 2015 with a BDI specializing in Media Design before completing his Masters of Design Innovation in 2017, focusing on the history of video game home consoles and how that data could be stored and catalogued through the video game medium itself.

Jelena Rukavina Vuckovic

Jelena earned her Masters in Art – a Painting degree at the Academy of Applied Arts in Belgrade, Serbia. She was awarded first place in an international exhibition for a portrait done in oil on canvas and became the first student to be awarded for her work in this exhibition’s history. She was teaching Art for 11 years, two being at Victoria University of Wellington. She was featured at the Art Tour International magazine “Artists of the decade” issue this year (2020) and was awarded a prize from Create 4 Peace and Green Planet for her contribution as an environmental artist. She participated in many exhibitions in the past and she will represent New Zealand and Serbia at the Florence Art and Design Biennale in 2021 where she is nominated for the “Lorenzo il Magnifico” award, previously awarded to David Hockney and Marina Abramovich. Her artwork is included in numerous private art collections throughout Serbia, Canada and New Zealand.

Hemi Takimoana

Hemi Takimoana is an experienced Graphic Designer with a demonstrated history of working in the Corporate, Print and Government sector. With a Masters of User Experience Design and a Master of Visual Communication he strives to evolve design communication efficiency towards outcomes that improve status quo.

Liisa Tervinen

Liisa Tervinen is a strategic designer and design manager, who has worked in a variety of fields from jewellery, social media, branding, vegan food industry to biomaterials. Liisa’s work has been seen in magazines, exhibitions and at grocery stores. Liisa has also published three design books, tutored biomaterial design and taught jewellery design
